Advice on how often your equipment needs testing
Is PAT testing a legal requirement?
No law says every appliance must be tested every year. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require employers to keep electrical equipment safe, and the Health and Safety Executive recommends a risk-based approach.
Low-risk places
In offices, regular visual checks may be enough for many items.
Equipment used hard
Tools on a building site or kettles in a busy staff kitchen need checking more often.
Items that move a lot
Hand-held tools and equipment that is moved often need checking more than a computer on a desk.
Your insurer
Your insurer may have its own requirements, so check your policy.

PAT testing questions
-
It depends on the type of equipment and how it is used. Hand-held tools and equipment that is moved a lot need checking more often than a computer that sits on a desk. We can suggest a schedule for your premises.
